Why Are UPVC Windows Popular?

When looking for new windows for your home, you have many things to consider including which frame material you should go for. With many options to choose from, it can be a difficult decision, but uPVC windows may be a good option for most homeowners.

UPVC windows are one of the most popular choices for window frames in Scotland and there are many reasons why.

Read on to find out why uPVC windows are so popular.

What are UPVC Windows?

UPVC stands for unplasticised polyvinyl chloride. It is a lightweight, long lasting plastic that is often used in the construction of windows and doors in Scotland.

There are a few options out there when it comes to choosing window frames, however, uPVC is a good choice for most homeowners.

It was originally manufactured back in 1935 but it wasn’t introduced into the UK until the late 1970s.

By the 1980s, uPVC’s popularity began to take off and it became the most popular window frame material bought during this time.

Why are UPVC Windows Popular?

UPVC windows are popular in Scotland for a number of reasons.

Firstly, uPVC windows are an extremely budget friendly option for homeowners. It is typically the cheapest option on the market. While they can be more affordable than other options, that doesn’t mean that they aren’t just as good.

UPVC used to only come in white, but now comes in a wide variety of colours and finishes including a wood finish to make it almost identical to timber. The only major difference between the two is the price as uPVC is generally a lot cheaper than timber frames.

Due to coming in a variety of colours and finishes, uPVC windows can fit well with most homes. If you have a period property, however, then this may not be the best option for you.

UPVC is also highly durable. They are great at resisting the typical Scottish weather and won’t warp or crack. Unlike other window frame materials, it isn’t susceptible to corrosion or rot.

This is a good choice for those looking for a low maintenance option. UPVC is extremely low maintenance and only requires a wipe down every once in a while.

UPVC windows typically last around 20 years, however, they could last even longer depending on their care and maintenance. Again, a little wipe down every once in a while will keep them in working order. This makes them worth the money and a worthwhile investment for any property.
